CRWC sponsors regular River Walks to points of interest around the watershed, in the months in which we do not have a major event occurring. Check out the destinations we've been to over the last few years in the log below. For more information on upcoming walks, check our calendar or sign up for our e-mail listserve to receive event notices.

Note that the e-mail listserve is our primary notification tool for upcoming River Walks.

Humbug Marsh                        Detroit International Wildlife Refuge

    2008 Schedule

Indian Springs Metropark, Environmental Discovery Center - White Lake

Check out the new underwater Environmental Discovery Center when aquatic life will be peaking in the spring. Join Ruth Glass of the CRWC for a brief pond study program that includes lab time with microscopes, as well as a walk around the grounds in search of migrating birds (transporters of many aquatic species) and other signs of spring.  Park entrance fee required.

    DATE & TIME: Sunday, April 27, 2008, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm.

PREP: This is a very low impact activity; dress for light trail walking.

Addison Township Watershed Preserve - north of Leonard

Join us for an Edible Plant Walk at the Watershed Preserve with veteran certified family herbalist Pat Schnur. We will be harvesting and sampling many wild edibles including ginger, coldfoot, and oxeye daisy.

    DATE & TIME: Saturday, June 14, 2008, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

PREP: Dress for light trail walking, and bring your appetite!

Harsen's Island Managed Hunting Unit - St. Clair Flats State Wildlife Area

Visit a huge wetland area not normally open to the public, as we are introduced to and escorted through the Harsen's Island Hunting Unit by Michigan DNR biologist Ernie Kafcas. We are anticipating great numbers of waterfowl, both migrating and resident,  to be present. Most of the area will be toured in an open MDNR vehicle.

    TENTATIVE DATE & TIME: Saturday, September 20, 2008, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

PREP: Dress for the open elements, and bring your binoculars.

Stony Creek Nature Center Watershed Exhibit and Stony Lake, Washington Twp

Stony Creek will be unveiling a sizeable new interactive Clinton River Watershed Exhibit this fall, and we intend on being some of the first to visit it. Join us at the Nature Center first, and then for a walk along Stony Lake in search of migrating waterfowl. This lake is consistently reliable for a large number and variety of migrants this time of year. Park entrance fee required.

    DATE & TIME: Saturday, November 8, 2008, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

PREP: This is a low to medium impact activity. Dress for the open elements, and bring your binoculars.

Pre-registration for River Walks is typically not required. River Walks are open to the public, however, if you are not a CRWC member and would like to join us on our walks, please consider making a donation to defray our costs.
