CRWC's Watershed Stewardship programs include the Adopt-A-Stream volunteer river monitoring program, Clinton River Coldwater Conservation Project, our annual River Day and Clinton Clean-Up events, and recreation activities. For more information about our stewardship programs, please contact:
  • Adopt-A-Stream: Ted Bolak, ted@crwc.org
  • River Day, Clinton Clean-Up, Clean Boating: Jill Hollowell, jill@crwc.org
  • Recreation: Dan Keifer, dan@crwc.org

Behr Corporation employees team up with CRWC and the Oakland Land Conservancy to protect and enhance Big Beaver Creek on their corporate campus in Troy.
  • Adopt-A-Stream
Adopt-A-Stream is CRWC's volunteer water quality monitoring program. CRWC  volunteers sample, test and record the water's physical habitat, biological community, and channel characteristics such as erosion and the amount of streamside vegetation. CRWC provides volunteers with all the training and equipment needed to participate in Adopt-A-Stream.

  • Clinton River Coldwater Conservation Project
CRWC is partnering with Trout Unlimited and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to explore opportunities to enhance the Clinton River as an urban trout fishery. Check out the project page to find out how you can get involved!

    River Day
Every year, in early June, individuals, businesses, community groups, and local governments across the watershed join forces to protect, enhance, and celebrate the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair. Activities range from nature hikes, canoe trips, fishing derbies, and fly fishing lessons to storm drain stenciling, river clean-ups, habitat restoration, and native landscaping.

  • Clinton Clean-Up
After playing in the watershed all summer long, join CRWC and our volunteer coordinators to collect litter from the riverbanks, remove invasive species, and manage woody debris.

  • Storm Drain Labeling
Throughout most of the Clinton River watershed, rain and snow that drain into the grates in our streets and parking lots flow directly to our waterways without treatment. Marking storm drain grates with a message such as "dump no waste - drains to river" is one way to raise the awareness about the connection between our storm drain system and our waterways.
CRWC has a stenciling kit available with instructions for volunteers and local governments, plus we have plastic stencils available to borrow or purchase ($15 each). We also have templates for door hangers to distribute when a group stencils the drains in a neighborhood. Many communities are switching to plastic storm drain decals that are affixed with a liquid adhesive. The decals are colorful and seem to stand up better to wear and tear. We have samples available in our office and they can be ordered online at www.dasmanufacturing.com.

  • Lake St. Clair Clean Boating Campaign
No one appreciates the natural beauty of Lake St. Clair more than the tens of thousands of boaters who enjoy the "Heart of the Great Lakes" each summer. Clean water, fantastic fishing and the natural beauty of Lake St. Clair are the main attractions of this crown jewel of outdoor recreation in Southeast Michigan. As boaters and anglers, find out what you can do do help keep Lake St. Clair the main attraction it is. The Dockwalkers Program is a partnership with the Anchor Bay Yachting Association and the Marine Environmental Education Foundation to bring boater best practices to Lake St. Clair.
