The Clinton River Watershed Council is thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Invasive Species Removal and Plant Pull. This event aims to take a step in restoring the natural beauty of Avon Nature Area and the CRWC Office grounds by eliminating invasive species and preparing the area for an upcoming native plant installation.
HERE’S WHAT WE’LL TACKLE:
Removing Invasive Species: We'll remove plants like honeysuckle, barberry, garlic mustard, and dames rocket that threaten our local ecosystem.
Prepping for a Rain Garden: We'll clear out invasive and non-native plants from an area slated for a rain garden, laying the foundation for a vibrant and eco-friendly landscape.
Creating Educational Plots: Help us prepare the existing plots to transform into educational showcases of native plants. This space will help teach visitors about the importance of local flora in supporting wildlife.
Weeding Poplars and Nettle: We'll also target poplars and nettle in our pre-existing rain garden to ensure its health and effectiveness.
Participants of all ages are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by an adult due to the handling of sharp tools and thorny plants.
EQUIPMENT & PREPARATION
Remember to bring a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather. CRWC will provide gloves and tools to participants, but if you have work gloves and loppers, feel free to bring them along.
REGISTRATION
As we work together to rid our grounds of invasive species, we're not just restoring the environment — we're beginning to create a living classroom that showcases the beauty and importance of native plants.
