Nourished By Nature Kayaking

  • Marshbank Park - Maple Ridge Parking Lot 2805 Hiller Road West Bloomfield Township, MI, 48324 United States (map)

Introducing Nourished by Nature: Kayaking, through this event, you will learn the basics of paddling so that you can experience the beauty of our local waterways. As we kick off the 2024 field season, CRWC is thrilled to bring you an immersive outdoor experience that will leave you refreshed, connected, and inspired.

This event is perfect for beginners and those who have never kayaked before.

Kayaking can be daunting at first. There’s a lot to figure out; what life jacket fits; what kayak length do you prefer, how do you turn; how do you go straight; what happens if you fall out; how can you deal with wind and currents; how do you stay safe on the water?

In Nourished By Nature Kayaking, you’ll learn about paddling and come up with answers to these questions.

This event is held in collaboration with West Bloomfield Parks.

DETAILS

Part of CRWC's mission is to celebrate the Clinton River, and there's no better way to do that than by paddling! Join us to learn the fundamentals of kayaking, basic paddling techniques, and practice at a comfortable pace.

We will paddle on Cass Lake, beginning from Marshbank Park. There we will go over safety information, get into our PFD's, and load into our kayaks. Our route will be flexible, and you'll paddle at your own pace. We always recommend that those new to paddling begin on a lake.

The Clinton River flows nearly 80 miles and hosts a variety of conditions. From nearly still waters to Class II-III rapids, the Clinton provides something for all skill levels, but not all sections are suitable for beginners, that's why for this event we're paddling on Cass Lake. Through our event, we hope that you learn enough to feel comfortable paddling on your own, in areas like the Clinton River and the watershed’s other lakes.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

WHAT TO BRING

If you have a kayak or PFD’s, you are more than welcome to bring it, but this event is mainly for those who have not had a chance to paddle before and are interested in trying this new outdoor hobby. CRWC will provide paddles, kayaks, and life jackets.

We recommend wearing sunscreen and/or a hat to protect from the sun while paddling. Dress in clothes you are comfortable getting wet in. Water shoes or shoes that can get wet are generally a good idea but are not required.

REGISTER

Let us know you're coming by registering below. Registration is required. If you plan to register more than one person, please submit multiple responses.

This event is free but has limited capacity.

JOIN THE WAITLIST

In many of CRWC’s free events, people register and don’t attend. Because we can only host a limited number of participants safely, we want to be sure that everyone who registers for Nourished By Nature Kayaking is able to attend.

Once registration closes, a waitlist will open.

You will be asked to confirm your attendance after you register and before the event. If you do not respond and confirm, you will lose your spot.
