We need your help to clean up non-native watercress behind the Clinton River Watershed Office in Avon Creek!
Watercress is in the Brassicaceae family, making it a mustard-like plant, related to kale, cabbage, collard greens, arugula, broccoli, and mustard. Watercress is actually edible (though CRWC does not recommend snacking on invasive species during the removal). It is one of the oldest leaf vegetables consumed by humans and is native to Europe and Asia.
In the United States, watercress is listed as invasive by 46 states. It is an aggressive invader that spreads easily and out-competes the native plants for resources.
