Volunteer Planting Day

  • Clinton River Watershed Council 1115 West Avon Road Rochester Hills, MI, 48309 United States (map)

The Clinton River Watershed Council is thrilled to invite you to our upcoming native planting!

This event builds on past efforts made by volunteers to restore the natural beauty of Avon Nature Area and the CRWC Office grounds. Now that the garden area has been prepared and invasive species have been removed, we invite you to join us in installing native plants to benefit pollinators and water quality!

HERE’S WHAT WE’LL TACKLE OVER TWO VOLUNTEER DAYS:

  • Prepping for an Education Garden: Thursday, August 22, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: For the first volunteer day, we’ll weed the residential rain garden and education garden plots to fully prepare them for installation. We will also remove non-natives from a garden along the side of the CRWC office building, remove weeds and/ or invasives from the large rain garden, which includes stinging nettle, and trim back cypress bushes to make room for equipment.

  • Filling the Educational Plots: Saturday, September 7, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM:
During our second volunteer day, we’ll finally plant native species in the education garden. This event will also include any last weeding and mulching.

The space at CRWC’s office will help teach visitors about the importance of local flora in supporting wildlife. The gardens will showcase plants with various bloom times and will include plants that benefit pollinators in the winter too!

Participants of all ages are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.

EQUIPMENT & PREPARATION

Remember to bring a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather. CRWC will provide gloves and tools to participants, but if you have work gloves and garden trowels, feel free to bring them along.
